An early George III Solid Oak Antique Bureau

dartington-antiques.co.uk , Faye from Dartington Antiques describing A perfectly coloured & wonderfully patinated Georgian oak bureau dating from around 1770. The fall, with working lock, opens to reveal a complete fitted interior with an old leather inset skiver. The centre small, lockable door opens to reveal a very old newspaper cutting which has been applied to the reverse. The colour and patination is exactly right on the interior as well as the exterior. The four graduated drawers again add to the overall appeal of this bureau with the original hand cut dovetailed linings. The original turned handles been replaced, more than a hundred years ago, with the more traditional looking Georgian open pierced brass plates and drop handles. Standing on bracket feet and still reataing its original rough sawn back panelling. There are only few very old repairs to this bureau which are hard to see as they blended with time, polish, and wax. Overall a very good example.
