Wood from Urban Trees Part 1 – The Trees of Parkholm Cemetery
This 2010 demonstration project in a suburb of Chicago takes dead white oak in a cemetery and directs it to a number of green wood projects for Chicago Public Schools. This first of five installments discusses the project, the history of the site and the trees being removed. The purpose of the project is to demonstrate the viability of milling urban trees rather than sending the debris to a landfill. Mark Duntemann of Natural Path Urban Forestry narrates the project. Presented by NPUFC (naturalpathforestry.com), the Illinois Arborist Association (illinoisarborist.org) and the Illinois Forestry Association (ilforestry.org).
